Family-run vegan shop Alternative Stores opens new store in North Shields
Alternative Stores has moved to Royal Quays, the business was voted best vegan shop two years in a row and is run by lifelong vegan Zahra and her dad.
A family-run vegan store has moved to a new home in Royal Quays.
Alternative Stores, which stocks entire vegan and free-from products, first opened in Plant Based Valley, Seaton Delaval in 2020.
But now the business has moved to Royal Quays, North Shields.
Daughter and father team Zahra Strettle and Dan John Strettle opened their new store on October 2.
Zahra said: "We moved to the Royal Quays Shopping Centre as we were blown away by the improvements to the centre and the new lease of life the centre now has with a range of small independent businesses alongside the traditional outlet stores. We moved to increase footfall and we're just a few doors down from a veggie/vegan cafe so you can pop to do your vegan shopping and stop for lunch while you're here."
Alternative Stores was voted 'Best Vegan Shop' in the Vegan UK awards in 2017 and 2019, having first launched as an online store.
Products stocked include difficult-to-find vegan food and groceries, vegan cheese, free-from foods, chilled and frozen items, vitamins, health and beauty products, clothes, toiletries, and plastic-free household items.
Dan has been a vegan for 50 years and daughter Zahra her whole life, but they say it's not just committed vegans who have popped into the new store.
